Power Converters
1700 different power converters or power supplies feed the magnets in the accelerator. (They are known as converters because they convert A.C. to the D.C. required by the magnets. )
What is a power converter at CERN?
The current delivered depends strongly on the magnet type. Some correctors take up to 60 Amps; the main bending magnet circuits take around 11,000 Amps at top energy. The total current delivered is 1.7 million Amps.
